My literature circle group is reading The Short Bus and we began reading chapters 1-5. As I finished chapter 1 the part that stuck out to me the most was what Jonny named the his bus. He named his bus after a guy he met before he set out on his journey, his name is Bob Henry. I believe he named his bus after this guy because he impacted him after finding out that Henry had a short bus as well. This allowed him to connect to someone that had something in common with him and it helped his journey move forward. Also while I was reading I began to think about how people with disabilities are treated. In the book and in today's society people with disabilities are treated differently and I think it is wrong. If someone has a disability they should not have things taken away from them or be put into different classrooms just because they are different. By taking things away and excluding them from places is causing them to feel neglected from others. I think the special education system needs to be improved in order for students with disabilities to feel like everyone else around them. From what I read so far in The Short Bus it has made me realize these problems with special education.
